Ice Cream Container Inverter and Shrink Bundling Machine

Ice cream cups, pints and tubs may look simple to package, yet their tapered shape can create a complicated end-of-line challenge. Many containers are wider at the lid than at the base. When every container is positioned upright, the widest parts sit beside one another, leaving unnecessary space within the multipack and making consistent bundle formation more difficult.

Polypack designs ice cream container inverter machines that automatically rotate every other cup, pint or tub 180 degrees before shrink bundling. This alternating upright and inverted arrangement helps tapered containers fit together more efficiently, creating compact, stable and consistent retail-ready multipacks.
Why Invert Ice Cream Cups and Containers?
Placing every ice cream container in the same orientation may create gaps between products. Those gaps can affect bundle dimensions, product alignment and stability as the multipack moves through wrapping, shrinking, conveying and downstream packaging.
An automatic ice cream cup inverter rotates alternating containers so the wider lid of one product is positioned beside the narrower base of the next.

The inverter automates a process that would otherwise require operators to manually flip and arrange individual containers.
How an Ice Cream Container Inverter Works
Ice cream containers enter the packaging system through a controlled infeed conveyor. Each product is guided, spaced and positioned as it approaches the inverter.
The machine rotates every other container 180 degrees while allowing the remaining products to continue upright. The upright and inverted containers are then brought together in the required sequence before being collated into a complete multipack.
Product control is maintained throughout the process so the alternating pattern stays consistent as the containers move toward the shrink bundler.
The system can be engineered around the container dimensions, package shape, incoming production rate, required pack pattern and available floor space.
Inverting Round, Square and Sqround Ice Cream Containers
Ice cream and frozen dessert packaging is available in a growing range of shapes.
Polypack systems can be designed to handle:
Round ice cream cups and pints
Square ice cream containers
Sqround or squaround tubs
Quart containers
Tapered frozen dessert cups
Larger family-size ice cream tubs
Other lidded dairy and frozen-food containers

Polypack engineers the inverter around the actual package. This application-specific approach helps protect the lid, printed graphics and primary package while maintaining the required orientation.
Combining Container Inverting and Shrink Bundling
After the containers are inverted and arranged, the completed product group advances into the shrink bundling section.
Shrink film is applied around the multipack and sealed. The wrapped bundle then passes through the heat tunnel, where controlled heat and airflow shrink the film securely around the containers.
Finished multipacks transfer smoothly to the discharge conveyor for continuous movement toward case packing, palletizing or another downstream operation.
Integrating the ice cream container inverter and shrink bundler into one system helps maintain control of the product pattern from the infeed conveyor through the finished bundle.
Designed for Dairy Packaging Lines
Ice cream packaging equipment may operate around cold products, condensation and demanding sanitation procedures.
Depending on the application, a Polypack ice cream container inverter and shrink bundler can be engineered with dairy-oriented construction features, including stainless steel components, corrosion-resistant hardware and protected electrical systems.
The equipment can also be integrated with existing:
Filling and lidding equipment
Product conveyors
Hardening and freezing operations
Accumulation systems
Case packers
Palletizers
Other end-of-line packaging machinery
Polypack works with the complete production environment to develop an automated system that fits the existing line and required workflow.
Automate Ice Cream Cup Inverting and Shrink Bundling
Polypack systems bundle ice cream rounds, squares and sqrounds into consistent retail-ready multipacks.
An integrated inverter automatically rotates every other ice cream cup or container 180 degrees, helping tapered packages form a compact alternating pattern. The products are then collated, shrink wrapped and transferred to the discharge conveyor for continuous end-of-line operation.
